Travel advice

Some of the jubilant headlines in today's press seem in stark contrast to the mood in London. Here's the Sun and the Daily Express ran with "Thank God", the Daily Mail "Surrender" and the Daily Mirror "Got Them".

There was lots of talk of normalcy, but little evidence of it. The leader in the Times today put it quite well. "The character of life will have to change. The abnormal will become normal."

Got five guys, but it really isn't over and the police are urging the public to be watchful and alert, which it seems is still the order of the day.

"Riding a packed Victoria line subway train on Saturday from Finsbury Park to Stockwell, where the failed attacks began, Natasha Snell, a 22-year-old dental nurse, said.

"I think there's more people out there waiting to do it. It doesn't make it any less anxious. I said to my friend this morning as we were coming into the station, we'll go to the end of the train because it always happens at the front," from the New York Times.

Hmmmm...

Like yeah you have a point but my blitz spirit says 'hey lets pretend' and in reality I am still going to work and going out in town though some of my aged relatives are insisting on suburban dining - ironically enough in Southgate - yeah lets head for bomb factory central...

Meanwhile over in W10 its quiet-ish but the skatepark is still kicking - see www.baysixty6.com; kids are still playing football and tennis under the Westway and terrorism didn't stop Lemar's Thursday street-gig / photo-shoot under the Portobello market tent, so maybe our blitz spirit is holding up after all...

As for the Sun's front page, while one can't essentially disagree with the sentiment (which is the rather opportunist point of the publicity hungry rag) I still feel obliged to bemoan a situation where a national newspaper uses terrorism as an excuse to start using pejorative obscenities on its front page - 'Got them' would have been just fine.

I'm tempted to write to The Sun's Editor asking whether you have to be a crap terrorist (or as a friend of mine referred to the current crop: disgruntled bhangramuffin) to get sworn at by the national media - or does one get sworn at worse if one actually blows something up - can we expect to see the Sun headlining with 'The F*ckin' C*nts!' in the unfortunate case of the next set of rucksacked kamikazes being a little more skilled with the paint-stripper mixing?

Actually 3 comments accident. I did the LGF link in the spirit of balancing US left wing blog (MyDD) with right wing (same as Harry's Place and Indy Media). But you've got admin rights so if you don't like it delete it - but delete MyDD too, which is f-ing boring...
