Yeah but it was Phillips who advocated apartheid not Livingstone.
And Phillips who rushed to the flag to condemn the very policies which offered hope to his constituents and instead opt for the ladder pull of the arriviste.

But I'm serious, Phillips, as Livingstone rightly said, had a Marcus Garvey lets all head to Africa moment then landed with a bump right of Centre advocating racially segregated education as an answer to the alleged evils of multiculturalism.
Like many ministers and others in power and policy-mouthing he has so lost touch with reality that he doesn't test the tropes and memes of neo-Blairite debate against the reality of his own constituency.
And where do we ACTUALLY HAVE racially segregated education in this country again Trev? - not in Tottenham but in Bradford; err and how many suicide bombers have we had from Tottenham again Trevor?
Anyway, War on Language tropes aside, as someone who works with quite a few black, white and (urgh) mixed Zims and South Africans I can tell you that Phillips is not so much barking up the wrong tree as stuck with his head down the wrong toilet.
The guys not so much a tool of the forces of reaction as just a tool. The trouble is he has been elevated way beyond his ability to a position which gives his voice authority and audience.
In his case he uses this position to blame the victim in a piece of mock blacker than black bravado which is really just another middle class guy blaming the poor for being poor and then adding that they are stupid and lazy too and thus probably deserve it - only one answer for this lot, gonna have to give them some institutional training of a correctional nature eh Trev - now go on boys, get your blazers on.
